It's My Money and I Want It Now!

- Why is it that women don't receive as much of a pay then men do? Is it not 2015 ? Are we not equal or seen as equal to men? Here's a little fun fact. Did you know that there is a wage gap? A wage gap is, by google term, a perecentage and is calculated by dividing the median annual earrings for women by the median annual earrings for men. In other words how much more a man makes compared to a woman. Another fun fact for you ! Did you know that white women make 78 cents to a man's dollar in the U. S. , black women make 64 cents to a mans dollar and Latina women make 54 cents. Sad and unfair right. Not to mention how much you make if your  transgender or gay you would make less than that 78 cents. To give a personal feel on things Patricia Arquette in this years Oscar awards also talked about how women have a terrible wage gap in Hollywood,California.
Personally I believe this is an unfair thing to have in one of the richest countries in the world. Women should not be paid so little. If a man and woman are doing the exact same job they should be paid an equal amount of income. This is a perfect example of how women are infearior to men in the work place. As women we already have to work twice as hard to be financially stable. Women have more needs than a man. We have to spend money on femini products, hair care products, make up , heels, ect. News flash U.S. government it isn't easy to be this beautiful with out any money in our pockets.
Not only does this gap affect single women it also affects single mothers more. According to an article by Megan Hagist "Single Moms fall into the Gender Pay Gap" sixty-three percent of unmarried women ( who make up roughly half of all women in the U.S.) are unemployed , three fourths of the nations unmarried women are living in poverty and 60 percent are living without health insurance. Why?! Because women today are working low- wage jobs inadequate for supporting themselves, and let alone a family. My question to you is by the time we are in the "real" world and working do you think the wage gap will be filled or even better do you think it will still exist?

  1. This is very true! For many years, women have been paid less than men. I believe there are several reasons behind this action besides women being views as inferior to men. Women had to depended on men back in the day, men were the breadwinners of their family. They probably thought that women did not need to make as much money as men because they did not need to support a whole household. If a woman made more money than a man, it would hurt their manhood and pride. Times have changed and now women have become the breadwinners or share the responsibility with their partner. I think it is unfair for women to be earning less than a man because of her gender. The government most probably would not even think about how much money is spent for a woman to take care of herself because the Government is mostly male-dominated. Although women's rights have come a long way, women are still seen inferior to men in the workplace because of what is expected of them from society. Until we realize that the wage gap is a big problem for women, nothing is subjected to change.

  2. I agree with you Annemarie I feel as though the reason why we have a gap is because back in history women had to rely/depend on the men. Men were usually the workers and the women stayed home and farmed and protect the children. So I feel like this concept has been passed down from generation to generation. I think it is unfair that women have to go through that. Why should gender matter when money is involved? Money is Money! Share it equally with everyone. Also I feel as though now in society that it's weird for a women to make more money than the man. So I think that the wage gap will exist until we decided to change.

  3. wow just wow this is so stupid to me. Honestly i think the US is the most corrupt and greediest countries because how the oppress their own people. as a women looking to start a career i think this is a bunch of crap because our gender, race etc should not be factored into our actual honest work that we do.. So if a man is have doing his job oppose to an actual hard working women she is only going to get less then him only because he is a man. like can a man carry a baby for 9 months/ i think not they wouldn't be able to handle it. Do they know how hard that can be fore a women. Do they have menstrual cramps every single month? no but they get paid more. This is just wrong man i feel like you should get paid for how you work man or women.

  4. Its crazy how this world treats woman to be honest. I agree with you when you say that a man and a woman should be paid the same amount for a same level job. If they are both equally qualified to have the position they have than why not pay them the same? There are many woman out there that are single mothers and they sometimes get no help. Sometimes when a mother goes to court or something and they fill out that they get child support whatever money they are gonna receive gets lowered because of that, when most of the time the father of the children don't even pay child support. While women are getting paid such a low amount they struggle to make ends meet. I know personally this is something that my mom goes through with my dad, when my mom decided to go to college and take a break from work she filled for unemployment and when she put down that she gets child support they lowered the amount. Hopefully by the time we're in the "real" world the wage gap won't exist. But the way it looks it might not change very fast.

  5. OMG!!! Neena I love this post especially the part where you were talking about how you were telling the U.S. government that it's not cheap to to be beautiful, which it isn't. This month alone I have probably spent atleast $60 and more on makeup that's just makeup not including the clothes, shoes, food, supplies, and feminine products I have to buy. But I am glad that someone at the Oscars brought this topic up, on live television , even though I didn't get to watch it. My dad makes way more money than my mom does and they both work at the same place, if you take into consideration that my mom works part time she doesn't even make half of what my dad makes. I feel more women should talk about this subject, men make more money to spend it on what -because all they need to buy is clothes, shoes, and shampoo and maybe some other few essentials but they waste all that extra money on bars, strip clubs. That money they waste can go to all those single mothers who need the money to provide for their children and themselves. The age gap in the 1900's was bad between woman and men and now 2015 its still very bad. So in the late 2000's I don't think there will be much change especially if we let men dominate us. Good topic Neena!

  6. Neena, I Agree with your blog that you posted above , It's sad that living in the 21st century omen are still not being paid equally to men. In my household my mom makes more than my dad but that's because they are totally in two different occupations. I feel as though is a women is doing a same job a a man why not get paid equally. If you have the same knowledge as the man sitting next to you why is it that you can't get paid the same amount of money. To be honest I think in the near future the fair wages will be made, but its all up to us women to fight for it just as much we fought to vote. I bet Susan B. Anthony was still alive she would probably never stop fighting for this cause for the unfair rights made against women. It's all about fairness and change at the end of the day.

  7. You're totally right Neena! America's been through way too much to still have these separations in gender, especially when it comes to their income. I also find it insulting that being a certain race or determines how much money you make. Many women especially probably work harder than any of their bosses to pay off living expensive for her and her children. Peoples wages should't be about how many boxes you can lift at one time but how efficiently the work is being done. Women don't get credit for all the things they have done to help the growth of many companies even to this day which makes "gender equality" thing the U.S is so proud about seem like a big joke.

  8. Neena, I 100% agree with you! I believe it¨s completely unfair that men make more money than females. 64 cents to a dollar is absolutely ridiculous. I believe if the same work is being done than equal pay should be required being male in my opinion does not make you anymore important than myself as a woman. Women don¨t get enough credit as Neith said. We have ends to meet as well, we have things to take care of as well. We have expenses as well! So much for this so called ¨gender equality¨ that America supports..what a joke!

  9. This is all very true! Women are paid less than men and this has been happening for years. I think The reason this wage gap exist is because America's tradition was based on women being very dependent on men. Men are supposed to work and bring in the money for the family, while the women stays home and takes care of domestic issues, but I think this is a pathetic excuse. The times have changed and America's progress to equal pay moves at a slow pace. Men need to realize equal pay is not about putting them down, equal pay is for the single mother who needs more money to support her family. Wage gaps in America shouldn't even be something we have to fight for. If men realized this is not their world and if the government had more common sense, and truly cared about equality for all, we would have equal pay for everyone.

  10. I do think it is unfair that women earn less than men in this day and age. However, I disagree that this wage gap can only be attributed to men having been the breadwinners for the majority of our nation's existence. This inequality is not because of the government; government workers (e.g. mailwomen and mailmen) make the same amount, regardless of gender or race. It is the private corporations and privately owned organizations that have these income gaps. I think women, too, have put themselves down because they tend to go after jobs that are as challenging, but not as prestigious as those of men. There are more female nurses than female doctors as well as more female managers than female owners and investors. When women do not have an equal presence in certain careers or better yet, don't have "society's stamp of approval" for prestige, they are inadvertently saying to themselves and women after them that women are incapable of taking leadership positions.

  11. This is very interesting. This shows that their is still inequality between men and women. However, I was wondering does this wage gap apply to women who hold higher postions? Like women judges, doctors, lawyers , captains in police force and army forces , etc

  12. Great Post! Honestly, I do think there would still be a wage gap by the time we get into the real world because although the gap is becoming smaller, it is still not decreasing fast enough. It's only really increased about a cent since God knows when and the fact that most people in our class is either Latino or African American, shows how we would be making less than white women, not to think of the men. Society still has not caught up to see that the world is changing and therefor employers are treating women less than men. I remember Ms. Cap telling a story freshman year and she said that she was applying for a teacher's position at a school. After, her interview the person interviewing her said that although she is a good candidate for the job they may not take her if a man comes looking for the position. This is because, the interviewer said, a man has mouths to feed and a family to take care of and her had to run the household. Ms.Cap asked him doesn't she have to eat and pay her bills in order to survive. The next question the interviewer said to her what happens when she gets on her menstrual cycle, is she going to take off of work? Ms. Cap was furious and ended up walking out of the room. This story shows me how employers judge women before hiring them. I have even heard of women not getting hired because they are pregnant. Society has to really learn that women although we may have other things going on that we are strong and can handle anything. Just think about it, let a man get one cramp; how would he take it ?

  13. Women have always been in competition with men. Especially in today's day and age, high salary based jobs are extremely competitive. Think about it? If you can think of any high profit/revenue companies, what gender are their CEO's? Microsoft, J.P. Morgan, Apple, Toyota, Wells Fargo, just to name a few, each of these companies CEO's are male. Why is it so difficult for women to get the jobs that men are more likely to get? If women do hold these positions, why are they getting paid way less than men? To me, I feel like thats prejudicial and not fair. It seems like society cannot trust women to hold the same positions as men because society would feel like the woman will mess up. That is not fair because women and men should be equal when getting jobs. If you ever filled out a job application, the application will say something like management will not judge your application based off of race, background, gender, age, color, creed, etc. I believe that a lot of hiring managers will based your application by at least one of those factors. In many cases it's gender and race. If a woman has a lot more experience than a man who she is competing against for a job, most likely i believe that HR would pick to go with the male, because he is more trusted and well respected in a work environment than a female.
